Rare Encounters is a design studio based between Athens and Brussels and is focused on creating products, environments and concepts. The studio’s work spans across various scales; from architecture and interiors, to products and research and is led by Alexandros Kotoulas and Photini Mermyga.

Rare Encounters draw the material and immaterial outlines of each project considering the client and contextual needs. By teaming up with engineers, experts, artists or fellow designers, we adjust our services towards the questions at hand.

Photini Mermyga graduated in Civil Engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Interior Architecture at the Royal Academy of the Art, The Hague. She has worked for Aristide Antonas in Athens and OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen in Brussels. As an Interior Architect she recently collaborated with PILA Studio on the design of a Holistic Wellness and Fitness Center in Athens.
